31/10/2019: Exploring Nha Trang

Diving? Denied!

Today, we were alerted that scuba diving was to be postponed again! The good news was that we had the all clear for tomorrow, bring it on! As we had another day to ourselves, we decided on exploring Nha Trang further. When we headed out, the sun was shining and the skies were blue. There wasn’t a single hint of a typhoon in sight! We headed to the beach front and walked along. There was a shopping centre close by, so we decided to enter and have a look at the shops. We were also itching to have some breakfast, so our eyes were on the lookout.

Thankfully, there were several places to eat. For ‘breakfast’ I went with chicken in a pot, accompanied by something resembling gravy, and rice. It was all right, I just haven’t gotten used to the floating bones yet. Back home the chicken would just be fillets and boneless. However, I’m all up for trying the Asian way! One of my favourite shops to browse, and potentially Mat’s least favourite, is Miniso. This is because it sells random stuff that’s pretty interesting, and seems to differ from every store. It’s mostly styled on Japanese products, and plenty of Marvel/quirky designs. I bought an eye mask as I find it difficult to sleep when the lights are on.

Milk & Cereal

After we’d finished with this shopping centre, we continued exploring Nha Trang further down the street. We came across another shopping centre! The pair of us were on a roll, so we thought it rude not to have a gander. This shopping centre seemed pretty open; there weren’t many stores here. Mat ended up buying a pretty cool Vietnam t-shirt. I was looking at clothes too, but nothing really took my fancy here, plus it was pretty expensive, even by UK standards.

On the top floor there was a supermarket. We actually managed to find some nice looking cereal, similar to Coco Pops, Frosties, etc. In addition to this, we also bought several small cartons of long lasting milk. Fresh milk just wouldn’t cut it. We bought enough cereal & milk to last us for the rest of Nha Trang. This would be the first time since leaving the UK that we’d have cereal for breakfast. It was bonkers!

Scoping the neighbourhood

When we left this shopping centre, we continued exploring Nha Trang and we headed deeper into the neighbourhood, as opposed to along the beach front. At the end of the street we could see that all the nearby streets converged to this one point. There must be something pretty big happening there…or so I thought. It turned out just to be a roundabout. Mat did notice a guy wee himself when we walked past him, very bizarre. We also made an important mental note that there was a laundrette here, and we’d need to pay a visit very soon!

Mat and I returned to the hostel; we were a tad exhausted. We decided to have a rest, and then went out for pudding, most important meal of course. After we returned from our sweet outing, I called Elva, my Indonesian friend. We called for a couple of hours, it’s always a joy and a good laugh. Helps to keep me going! The pair of us called it a night quite early, scuba diving tomorrow, and we’re up early!
