21/01/2020: Bus to Kuala Lumpur

We're going to KL

I woke up at around 7:30 this morning. We had a bus to Kuala Lumpur at 8:30 at the bus station we arrived at. As it was early and we didn’t have a whole lot of time on our hands, we just grabbed some breakfast from 7/11. Just the standard pastries, fake croissants and the like. We left for the bus station, which was only a nice 5-minute walk down the road. Once we turned up, we only had to wait 10 minutes or so before our bus arrived, so we hopped on straight away.

The transport and tour services work great in Asia, all you have to do is go to the reception at the hostel and they’ll get you on a cheap bus to any popular destination. It gets rid of a lot of the hassle, and a lot of the time you even get picked up at the hostel. The bus journey was around 4 hours to Kuala Lumpur, although I slept for about 3 1/2 hours, so it went really quickly. I could tell we were out of the Highlands because the temperature had ramped up again, and was feeling a little bit stifling.

Showing where to check in, and where the hostel is.

Metropolis

When the bus arrived in Kuala Lumpur, we left the station and got a taxi straight to our hostel. Our hostel was called Hotel Hibiscus City, this was in quite a busy and central area, with connections to local transport. It’s quite a weird setup, there’s a restaurant next door where you check-in. We stayed in a dorm, which was pretty open plan, and there are several floors with an elevator. There’s quite a large communal area, but the hostel isn’t the most beautiful you’ll see. But it’s cheap and it’s a bed for the night. However, we couldn’t check in until 2pm, so we left our bags at the reception, and went for a walk.

We didn’t stray too far, just down the road and around the block. There was a small Indian restaurant we visited, and as I had been building up a tolerance to spicy food, I tried my hand at a biryani. It’s safe to say that was a mistake, and I was crying nonstop throughout. The owner was very nice and checked on me, even giving me more rice to help dilute the spice. I’m truly a novice compared to these other folks. Once I’d recovered, we went for a stroll a bit further, and happened upon a Subway. It was in a quiet shopping complex, but we bagged some cookies for dessert.

We walked back to the hostel with full bellies, and checked into our dorm. After a hot and exhausting day, I flopped on my bed and just chilled there for a few hours. Once it was cool and dark outside, we nipped out and found a McDonalds that we treated ourselves too whilst we were wandering the streets.
