The final roti
Our flight to Indonesia was at about 5pm this evening, which meant we were in no rush to get out. Instead, we opted for a nice lie in until the middle of the morning. After we got our things together and left, we went for breakfast to the usual café. We didn’t know it yet, but this was to be our last roti. Once we had swallowed our final roti, we made our way to the tram stop, not far away. We had to take a couple of trams/trains to get to the airport. It took about an hour to get there, longer than I thought it would take.
Once we got to the airport, we checked in our luggage, and went through immigration. I know that the Changi Airport was a hub where a lot of long haul flights stop off, but I had no idea it was so huge. Not to mention that there are several different terminals with shops, facilities, and loads of airplane slots too. The pair of us had a good walk around the place, before we worked up an appetite and decided to visit McDonald’s.
However, the issue we had was actually finding it. We looked at the maps, tried to follow them, but couldn’t find it anywhere; we found one McDonald’s, but it was before immigration, so we weren’t able to go to it. After discovering there were actually other terminals, we made a breakthrough and finally found it. Just a note – you have to take a small monorail to get between the different terminals, that’s how big Changi Airport is!
Flying into the sunset
Once we’d had our meal, we saw that our gate was opening. So we popped on over to Terminal 1 and sat at our gate until the very last moment. There was quite a large queue, and we noticed the amount of people wearing face masks was steadily increasing. Singapore had the largest amount of COVID-19 cases outside of China at around 10-15. We didn’t have to wear face masks, as there didn’t seem to be much danger.
Despite the flight to Indonesia being only a few hours, the plane itself was a long haul plane. This meant that we were given some food, which was all right, nothing special. It also meant that the chairs had TVs in the back of them, winning. The Joker had only been out recently, so I decided to watch that since people raved about it. The movie finished just before we landed, which was pretty good timing, and I did enjoy the movie.
When our flight landed in Indonesia, more specifically Bali, it was around 8pm, and pretty dark. Prior to our flight, I had been able to see that there was a bus from the airport that headed into Denpasar, where our hostel was located. However, after being harassed by some taxi men and defiantly shunning them, we realised that the buses didn’t run this late. This meant we had to swallow our pride and ask one of the taxis for a ride into town. After a fairly short ride, we rocked up at our hostel, checked in for the night, and turned in. Our hostel was called Bed Box Bali, and it’s a nice hostel run by a family.
