Blistering heat
Mat and I had a very late lie in today, and an even lazier get up. By the time we were up and ready to actually go out, it was already afternoon. After yesterday’s long walk by the beach, I’d acquired a blistering sunburn from the blazing Bali Sun. It wasn’t pretty, and it wasn’t comfortable either. When we were ready to face the heat again, we buckled up and decided to head to a nearby shopping centre in the hopes of aircon.
As soon as the hot air and the sunshine hit us, we knew we were in for a rough ride. The sunburn was uncomfortable enough when inside, so the pain amplified when we set off walking around Bali. Whenever we could, we stuck to the shade. At high noon, there wasn’t much shade to go around.

When we had reached the shopping centre, after dodging in and out of shadows, we were a little disappointed. It was quite open plan, and it wasn’t entirely enclosed, which meant there was no aircon to save us. After having come to terms with the absence of cool air, our next job was to find something to eat. Unfortunately, most of the shops here were dearer than we’d like, so we were both thankful when we found a meal deal. We managed to get a main meal and a smoothie for less than £2.
Pouring it down
Once we’d demolished our meals and smoothies, we couldn’t reject the opportunity of Dairy Queen in front of us. I had ice cream sprinkled with kit-kit on top, love it every time. We attempted to find something to do whilst we were out, but even the cinema couldn’t tempt us this time. With nothing appealing to us, we made the decision to head back home…what a productive day! Our luck was in, however, as just after we arrived back at the hostel, the heavens opened. It was absolutely raining cats and dogs, so we were thankful to have dodged it.

Over the next few hours, we chilled out (to the best of our abilities) in the room. Both of us had numerous showers throughout this period to cool our sunburned shoulders down. Due to the rain still going crazy outside, we opted to have dinner in the restaurant below the hostel again. After we’d eaten, I had an early night as I had a bus to catch tomorrow morning to Lombok.
