13/12/2019: Moving to 4K beach

Moving beaches

I had another very good lie in today, always a bonus. I went to the main strip for breakfast, and met with Mat down there. Once we had spoken a bit and were ready to move, we checked out of our bungalows and made our way to 4K beach. Fortunately, we didn’t have to use the rocky path we used the other day, there was a much shorter route to 4K beach. However, this wasn’t without it’s own issues, as we were about to discover. For the most part, the route is through a jungle environment, which is fine. The problem occurs when you’re on the other side.

Depending on the time you come here, will affect the depth of the water on the beach. When we came, the tide was in and so the path we had used previous was waist high with water. This is not handy when you have a large backpack that is lower than your waist, and the tide is rocking you all over the place when you have a large bag above your head. We had picked up a straggler in the form of Sachira, a Mongolian girl. She saw us heading this way and decided to follow us. However, she too got stuck at this point. Instead of using the route we used yesterday, I went nearer to the sea (the sand was at a higher level, thus the water was lower).

Meeting an old friend

We arrived at our new hostel, Reef On The Beach, which seemed to be packed with young backpackers/partygoers. It was a hive of activity and took us a while to get booked in. We spoke to Sachira for some time before we went to the tattoo parlour for Mat. I sat and waited in the tattoo shop whilst Mat got a gecko tattooed on his leg by some fellow Polish brethren. Whilst I was waiting outside, a familiar face descended upon me; it was Mischa! It was a very nice surprise, and it was nice to see her again after having separated 1-2 weeks ago. Check this post out to find out how we met Mischa.

When Mat was finished, he joined us outside. The tattoo looked pretty good, but it meant he was unable to go into the ocean for several days (our time on Koh Rong!). The 3 of us spent some time on hammocks and relaxing. I was also being more playful and spent time swimming in the sea.

Dinner and cards

After having sunbathed and swum for an hour or two, we decided to get some grub. The 3 of us gathered our belongings and made the walk towards the main strip. We had heard about a very nice and quaint Italian restaurant, so we went to check it out. It was up a side street, and was quite small, but spread across 3 stories of a building. We each picked an Italian meal, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very nice and worth the extra money. As is our custom, we whipped out the playing cards and played a few rounds of Rummy and Shithead (real name).

Mat and I decided to stay another night (tomorrow) as Mischa was also staying a couple of nights. No complaints from me in paradise! We departed with Mischa for the night, and on the way back to 4K beach, Mat and I picked our laundry up. It was a large haul, and I’m starting to grow tired of this walk between 4K beach and the main strip. We went back to the hostel and chilled for the night. The hostel had quite a lot of drinking games and fun. Mat and I decided to just enjoy it from the side lines.
