Arriving in Jakarta
We arrived in Jakarta on the train in the morning, around 8 or 9. As expected, the sleep was broken and pretty rough, never have a good sleep on trains in a chair. I woke up shortly before we arrived, so I got prepared and once we stopped the pair of us got off. We had a flight today from Jakarta to the Philippines, with a layover in Singapore. Our flight to Singapore was in the evening, so we had plenty of time to kill. There was a shopping centre nearby, so we decided to venture here in search of breakfast. We passed all manner of creatures being sold in cages on the way such as monkeys, bats, lizards, and the rest!
The shopping centre was just beginning to open when we arrived, and no where was selling food yet. We found a small stall that was doing kebabs, so we sat down and waited for it to open. The girl came and went for ages, before finally taking our orders at 10ish. To be honest, it was worth the wait, the kebabs, though not a conventional breakfast, were delicious. We bought a few supplies for the road, then got a taxi after having been here a couple of hours. Mat was the first to fall asleep, followed by me shortly afterwards, it took around 40 minutes to get to the airport.
A long wait
When we arrived at the airport, we were conveniently dropped right outside the terminal. We popped inside but still had a few hours to wait. As usual in these circumstances, I loaded up the videos and manga, wasting time efficiently. I also had some instant noodles from a shop, they were able to heat them up for me. After some time, we checked in and went through immigration, and waited near our gate. On the way, we found some Haribo Tropifrutti, my favourite sweet that I hadn’t seen since Nha Trang last year. Safe to say we both bought a big bag of them using the last of our Indonesian rupiah.
Speaking of Nha Trang, check out our experience of it here where we went scuba diving.
Same as before, we spent a lot of time entertaining ourselves in this waiting area. Unfortunately, after checking in there was no free water refill, that made us sad. When our gate opened, close to nightfall, we hopped on and relaxed. Not for long though, an hour and a half later we were in Singapore. I don’t mind a layover in Changi airport, it’s the best. We arrived at Changi airport around 11pm, and our first destination was McDonald’s. Both of us were hungry and demolished our supper. Once we’d finished with McDonald’s, we found a place to sleep for a few hours as our flight to the Philippines wasn’t until about 5am. We found a couple of benches without arm rests, so we could lie down, set our alarms, and went to sleep.
