06/02/2020: Exploring Bali

Beach bums

I had a nice lie in today, because why not, eh? When we eventually got the motivation (or guilt) to finally move, we had breakfast downstairs. There’s a restaurant you have to walk through, run by the same folks as the hostel, so we ate chicken and porridge there. It worked quite well to be honest. As we didn’t know the area, we asked the owner what was worth exploring in this part of Bali. She basically said the only thing to do here in Denpasar was go to the beach, so that’s what we did.

What we should have done is check out what there is to do in Bali, like this one!

The pair of us set off in direction of Kuta Beach, under the blistering eye of the Sun. After a short walk, we had reached the beach and it seemed pretty popping. We took off our sliders and vests, and began our long walk along the coast. The waves here were consistently big, and there were some folks doing water sports up and down the beach. For whatever reason, we saw an unusually large amount of fish that had washed up on the shore and dried out.

Heating up

After walking for an hour or two, and seeing a few unsightly Russian sunbathers, we swivelled 180° and began our return journey. As the afternoon went on, it was only getting hotter and there was no respite from the Sun. The wind kept us feeling cool, but I knew this was only going to bite us in the bum later on. When we eventually reached our exit, we took a few moments to cooldown somewhat before continuing. There was a Japanese restaurant just down the road, and we had a gorgeous meal full of different flavours.

Once dinner had been demolished, our exploring of Bali was at an end for today, so we made our return to the hostel to chill out, literally, for a few hours. Both of us were looking very red indeed, and the need for cold showers that proved ineffective confirmed this. After a few uncomfortable hours, we decided to do a wee bit more exploring of the surrounding Bali area, but this time under the cover of dark. We went round the block, had a bit of supper to tide us over, and then turned in for what was a bit of a sore night.
