26/02/2020: Train to Jakarta

Penultimate day in Indonesia

Today was to be our penultimate day in Indonesia. By the end of tomorrow, we’d be out of here and en route to the Philippines. We’d be flying from Jakarta airport via Singapore, and taking a train to get to Jakarta this evening. The pair of us got up mid-morning, got our stuff together, and then checked out. We left our bags at the hostel until later, and went out get get brunch. This was in the form of McDonald’s, can always trust the consistency and comfort it provides. As we had the day to waste, we stayed for a while. After an hour, we walked across the road to a shopping centre.

The size of shopping centres in seemingly random and ‘underdeveloped’ countries astounds me. They’re usually huge and full of genuinely good shops. Many put our shopping centres to shame in the UK. This one had many towers interconnecting with one another, and we spent time exploring the place extensively. Even after this, we had loads of time, so we decided to watch a movie. There wasn’t much on show, but we went with Invisible Man, which was actually an all right movie, and used up 2 hours we had to waste. I still appreciate the much lower price of the movie tickets in Asia, it’s nice.

Check out this shopping centre experience in Thailand which left us impressed.

After the movie, Mat and I returned to our hostel, picked up our bags, and walked to the train station. The train to Jakarta would arrive in the evening, so we bought a few bits and bobs to eat and drink. We didn’t have long to wait until the train to Jakarta arrived, and we promptly got on board. As usual, I got settled in, loaded up my videos, and began the long haul to Jakarta.
