Ready to roll
After a semi late night, I managed to clock in another nice lie in. We were leaving Malacca today to head further south as we slowly move towards Singapore. This afternoon, we’re taking a bus to Batu Pahat, a small town a few hours along the coast. As we were checking out shortly, we gathered all of our gear together, and headed for breakfast. Just like yesterday, we got a free breakfast which contained eggs, and sat around speaking to some of the other backpackers staying here.
When noon struck, we got a taxi back to the bus station to get ready for the bus to Batu Pahat. We had a little bit of a wait, but we always prefer to be early, because you never know what disaster could strike! There was a counter that we queued up for, and then they printed our tickets for us. Despite there being machines to print your tickets in some places, there’s something I like about having to physically go to a counter to get tickets printed off.
Cruising south
Before the bus to Batu Pahat, we wanted to get some grub. Just like when we arrived, I had some food from McDonald’s, although I didn’t get an entire meal. Mat decided to go and get a sandwich and other bits from a nearby shop. Soon after, the bus to Batu Pahat was ready to roll down south. The pair of us got on board, and just like normal, I went straight to sleep and missed most of the journey. The bus was only 2 hours or so, but I like sleeping, and it makes the journey faster, so why not?
Also, I swear every time we get transport, I’m next to someone, usually quite large. Whereas Mat is usually sitting solo, and has all the leg room in the world. Every damn time! When we did reach Batu Pahat, we realised there wasn’t a great deal to do here, especially during the evening time. Due to this, we decided to only stay here for one night, and swiftly move on to another place tomorrow.

Strolling around town
It was only a 5-minute walk to our hotel, even though it seemed quite obscure and amongst a lot of run down buildings. Our hotel was called OYO BP Hotel; it was in a quiet area, but the rooms were nice and tidy. Whilst we were in our room, we decided to book the bus and accommodation for another nearby city called Kluang. After we chilled out a bit, we decided to head out for some food and go on a walk.
Our first destination was to walk around the block, and then we discovered there was a river right nearby. We headed to the river, and had a walk along it, and through a small park area. There were several water monitors knocking about next to the river, it’s always cool to see them as they look like komodo dragons. Once we’d been around the block via the river, we nipped in a restaurant for a bit of dinner. We just had a couple of rice dishes, but they were actually pretty delicious. There was some crazy party of 15 people or so, it looked like a really fun event, with a hell of a lot of food!
Before heading back, we went to a supermarket nearby, and discovered they had some insanely low prices on a lot of foods, including chocolate. I grabbed some and then enjoyed it greatly back at the hotel room. We took advantage of the prices, and nabbed a load of other food too.
