Lying in
We didn’t set an alarm for today, so I had a beautiful lie in. As we’re leaving tomorrow, we’re exploring Kuala Lumpur today in the hopes of seeing or experiencing some pretty good stuff. When we decided to head out, we gathered our stuff, and leapt out into the baking sunshine. The pair of us had some quick breakfast nearby, and then we had a long walk to the Petronas Towers, arguably the most famous landmark in Kuala Lumpur; let the exploring begin!
Whilst en route, we stepped into a travel shop to see if we could get cheap travel to our next destination, Tioman Island. She made a phone call or two, and came out with a figure spanning into the hundreds. I don’t know what the hell kind of transport she’s using, but we promptly left. It was awfully hot, and the Sun was just beating down on us, which makes everything take more effort.
After winding through the streets of Kuala Lumpur, we arrived inside the towers. There’s a sort of underground system that’s linked up around the nearby area, so you don’t have to travel across the roads outside. I must say, they were pretty damn impressive; it was hard to take it all in, even for the camera. After walking away from the towers, we actually managed to get better shots because we were a bit further away, not right next to them.
Relaxing in the park
After seeing the towers, we continued exploring Kuala Lumpur in search of other places of interest. We decided to head to the nearest green area I could find. This happened to be the Perdana Botanical Garden; this was another decent walk away. I wasn’t looking forward to the walk, as we were melting into the pavement. We had to stop off at a shop to get a quick drink; we’d both run out of water long ago! Once we had rehydrated ourselves with Ribena, we marched onwards to our destination.
We reached the park after about an hour of walking. At first, we struggled to actually get into the garden grounds, we were walking on a road going through the park. Eventually we found an opening, although it seemed like the park was supposed to be closed, as we had seen no one else. We entered the park, and it was tranquil to say the least. It felt as though we had been transported to an entirely different world compared to the metropolis just minutes away. It was peaceful, with trees, flowers, plants, wildlife, and some water ways. The heat was still unbearable, so we were thankful when we spotted some tables in the shade of the trees.

Local food
Whilst at the tables, we (I) booked the bus and ferry to Tioman Island, in the south east of Malaysia. It was rather troublesome, especially in the heat, to find timetables for buses and ferries which times match up. After we had booked transport and lodgings for tomorrow, we carried on wandering around this endless maze of a park. There were so many paths to choose, ascending and descending hills, crossing each other. We even saw some deer in an enclosure.
Eventually, we made it out of the park alive…just. We now had a long walk back to the hostel, in the baking heat. Whilst exploring Kuala Lumpur on the way home, food was on our minds. It just so happened, that we stumbled upon a self-service buffet counter. You went along the counter, and just piled your plate with whatever you want, then pay at the end when they tot it all up. This was just under a shelter in a car park. To be honest, I couldn’t tell you what foods I ate. Hell, I couldn’t even describe the foods I ate, but I sure enjoyed a varied, delicious, and cheap meal!
After our bellies were filled, we carried on, marching like troopers, back to the hostel. It took long enough, but we made it. I flopped straight in my bed and rested for a few hours, nodding off. When we were both awake later, we went out in search of food. At least it was dark and cooler now. We stumbled upon Nandos, so we decided to give it a bash. It was the same great taste, with a refreshing cheap bill at the end. It was very nice, and finished the day on a high note.
