Breakfast on the house
After a fairly late night, we had a beautiful lie in, can’t beat them. We also had breakfast on the house; you can have eggs however you like, and it was pretty delicious. Just what the doctor ordered. We were going to be exploring Malacca today, as we’re not here for long. Whilst eating breakfast, we got speaking to a local fellow who had a decent hostel business going on. He also had an interest in football, and even knew Nottingham Forest. I’m always impressed when folks abroad know of us.
We told him we were exploring Malacca today, and asked him what he recommends us to see. From what he was saying, there’s not really much in the area to actually see. He mentioned St. Paul’s Hill and Church, as well as a nearby shopping centre. I was hoping for Malacca to be a little more action packed, but it turned out to be a little lacklustre. I guess exploring Malacca wasn’t going to be as thrilling as I had first thought it would be when we were planning to come here.
King of the hill
After we departed the local and the hostel once we’d eaten breakfast, we made our way to St. Paul’s Hill. It was only 10 minutes away or so, and a little underwhelming if I do say so myself. The church was in fact a ruin, although quite popular by the looks of things. The hill is in the middle of the city, just a small trek to the top. I guess it lacked any background info, so we couldn’t appreciate what happened here or what it meant to the people of the surrounding area (if anything).
So, we carried onward with our favourite city activity; exploring the shopping centre. There were actually 2 shopping centres, across from each other, and pretty big too. We had a walk around both; I managed to find a brush for my beard which was still growing to extreme lengths. As is quite popular with shopping centres, there was a cinema, and despite the lack of good films, we bought a couple of tickets to Bad Boys For Life. Whilst we waited for the movie, we went to subway for lunch and of course indulged in some cookies.
Here’s another story of us exploring a well known city…Shanghai!
A calm evening
After lunch, we watched the movie, it was okay at most, nothing special. We returned to the hostel after leaving the cinema and walking around for a little bit. Once we had arrived at the hostel, we chilled here for some time (as always, the heat takes it out of you). We also took this down time to plan our next part of the journey; we were travelling south, eventually ending up in Singapore.
Once darkness had fallen, we ventured out to the night market once more, this time in search of food and treats. We walked a different way, the part we’d missed yesterday, and got to see a new side of the market. Once we’d had our fill from the market, we turned in for night.
In hindsight, and with a bit more planning, we could have gone to a website like this to look at what there was.
